Introducing NewfoundlandMilitia

NewfoundlandMilitia is a modern civil defence initiative rooted in the long-standing tradition of Newfoundlanders stepping up to protect their people, their land, and their way of life.

Historically, the Newfoundland Militia played a vital role in the defence of this island during times of war and uncertainty. From coastal defences in the 19th century to local volunteer forces in World War II, our communities have a proud legacy of self-reliance, resilience, and readiness. Today, we honour that legacy—not by preparing for war, but by preparing for whatever challenges this century may bring.

Our Mission

To build a capable, community-centered network of volunteers trained in emergency response, disaster preparedness, and practical life skills—to be ready when needed, and useful always.

What We Do

We facilitate training, collaboration, and boots-on-the-ground support in areas such as:

- Wilderness survival & search/rescue

- First aid & trauma response

- Food and water preparedness

- Safe communications & community alerts

- Home readiness & supply coordination

- Cybersecurity and personal privacy

- Navigation, resilience, and leadership skills

Why It Matters

Newfoundland is no stranger to tough conditions—harsh weather, isolation, and shifting economies. But it’s that very challenge that forges strong, self-reliant people. As the world grows more complex and unpredictable, we believe local communities like ours must be prepared—not out of fear, but out of duty and care for one another.

Who We Are

We’re not a political group, not a protest movement, and not a military force.

We’re friends, neighbors, workers, veterans, parents—everyday people who believe in the value of being ready, being strong, and being useful.

Join the movement. Train with purpose. Be part of NewfoundlandMilitia.

*Because no one is coming to save us—and that’s okay. We’re ready.*

Emergency Preparedness

The Red Cross recommends that you keep a disaster preparedness kit in your home with enough supplies to meet your family’s needs for at least 3 days. By taking the time now to store food, water and supplies, you can provide for yourself and your family in an emergency.

First Aid Training

St. John Ambulance has been ensuring the health, safety and quality of life for Canadians for over 135 years. St. John Ambulance offers the most comprehensive, state-of-the-art first aid and CPR training programs.
